U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell toured the $1.5 million Hughesville Dam Removal Project on the Musconetcong River on Thursday, September 8th, 2016.
Removal of the 150-feet-long dam between Pohatcong Township and Holland Township started in June by the Musconetcong Watershed Association.
"This was a great event to showcase the work done by the many partners involved in the dam removals of the Musconetcong River. We look forward to the present project of the Hughesville Dam to be as successful as the prior dam in Finesville,” said Mayor James Kern III.
The mayor participated in a round table discussion earlier in the day with Secretary Jewel,NJ DEP Commissioner Bob Martin, MWA Director Beth Styler Barry and others.
"All of these partners at the Federal, State and local level have shown tremendous leadership throughout this process and has led to great success. Open communication and collaboration have been key factors to making these projects work so well. To have the US Secretary of the Interior come to the Township is a great honor and speaks to work done by the many volunteers and professionals working to keep our part of the United States' natural beauty in tact."
