Oppressive Heat & Humidity - Wednesday, July 20 & Thursday, July 21, 2022
Posted July 19, 2022An extended period of heat is expected through at least Sunday with many areas experiencing high temperatures in the low to mid 90s each day. The highest Heat Indices are currently expected to occur on Wednesday and Thursday with Thursday being the most oppressive day. A Heat Advisory has been issued for Wednesday for portions of the area. The attached graphic includes the maximum forecast Heat Index for Wednesday.
Hazardous Weather: Oppressive Heat and Humidity with Heat Indices exceeding 100°
Locations affected: Southeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and the eastern shore of Maryland
Timing: Wednesday and Thursday
Impacts: These heat index values can cause heat related stress particularly among at-risk populations. Those especially vulnerable include elderly, children, those with pre-existing conditions, especially if they live near urban centers without air conditioning.
Confidence on occurrence: Confidence is high that Heat Indices will exceed 100° across much of the area, especially on Thursday.
